Ya, I often get myself in trouble like that. I have no brain-mouth filter. Sometimes it is good, everyone always knows exactly what i am thinking, other times, i want to run and hide from what i have said. It was a typical human response, she did nothing intentionally wrong. I am sure anyone one of us would, has, and will do the same at some time. Lets not punish her for being human.

I have done this- usually in response to a nursing home call that, if the staff was watching, I would not be there cleaning up there mess…

I did have a partner that did a whoopsie.. We transported this post-choking victim to the local ED for evaluation. All was fine until we moved him from our stretcher to the ED bed. At that point, he stopped breathing and was intubated after the breakfast in his throat was cleared. As long as he sat up, his breath sounds were fine, pulse ox during the 30 minute transport was 97 to 100% on room air.
My partner, being the good guy he is, went out to the waiting room to get the family as we moved the patient over. He told them the patient was doing good and walked in on the patient unresponsive and intubated. Hoorific for us at that time, little amusing now.

Unfortunately our brain-mouth filters don't always work, especially when we're tired or just not paying attention. I know mine has gotten me into trouble several times, either a joke I thought would help the mood flopped or I just said something stupid. I've had the patient just like this one before, got the patient to the hospital transferred care the whole nine. Before I left I figured I would speak to the family one last time and check on the patient, I told them the words that would forever haunt me, “She's in good hands, they will take good care of her”. Next thing I know the patient's bp was tanking because of a med they pushed and I'll never know if they made it. It happens to the best of us, just gotta learn and move on.

I have been in two car accidents and one was very serious. The EMS/Medics were so sweet and I did appreciate their sense of humor.
My husband also had a heart attack and I will always be grateful for their jokes because it stopped me from having a panic attack. It has been years but I will always remember Guy and Sam. They saved my husbands life and my sanity. All of you guys are great and are hero's out there. You are first on scene and first to administer aide.
