Airway is a great subject. Why don't you show the class how we breathe with a classic model from the science fair. Most people don't even really understand how we breathe and why people get tired from breathing. Build the balloon in a bottle with a rubber diaphragm at the open base to show it's the muscles surrounding the chest cavity that helps us breathe. From what I've seen, new EMTs and Paramedics don't know how to recognize when a patient is so tired from working at breathing that they need to intervene. Show your students how hard they are working by pulling on the artificial diaphragm. Air just doesn't go in and out by itself, it only does it because it's pulled in due to changes in atmospheric pressure made by our muscles. Show them.
